About a year ago, I started seeing products by Orange Mud pop up in my social media news feeds. They had quite a social following and some nice looking products. Water bottles, hydration packs, gear bags; all being used for various outdoor adventures. I though to myself, “I want to be doing outdoor adventures like that! I’ll need to stay hydrated!” So, I put the Orange Mud HydraQuiver Double Barrel Vest Pack on my Christmas list. On November 21, 2015, I ran my first Ultra. In runner-speak, an Ultra – short for ultramarathon – is a race longer than a marathon distance of 26.2 miles. I entered into this new echelon of distance running by completing the JFK 50 Mile Race in Boonsboro, Maryland. Looking back, I am happy that I completed the race. I have a great sense of accomplishment from conquering that distance and achieving a difficult goal. There were times during the race, though, when I questioned whether or not it was worth continuing on. (more…)

I am proud to have a group of runners in the Richmond Marathon on Saturday, November 14th, 2015, representing the Lucas Fund and honoring my first son, Lucas Carson Sanders. I consider these runners great friends and dedicated athletes. Several of which I have helped to train for the past few months to meet their goal at this event. I will be in Richmond to cheer them on and share in their persuit of personal accomplishment. Most importantly, Jen and I will be there to thank them for supporting the charity that helps babies and families at the University of Virginia Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
