In 2016, I watched the live feed of the 44th Annual Cherry Blossom 10 Miler in Washington DC. I managed to catch screenshots of several of my friends as the crossed the line. Mike Wardian, Matt Lofton and Alex Lane (out-kicking Meb Keflezighi at the finish). If I were Alex, I would make that a poster and hang it in my living room. (more…)

This winter, it has seemed like my life has revolved around Connor’s travel sports. If we didn’t have a basketball tournament one weekend, we had a preseason soccer tournament. Or both on the same weekend. We spent a lot of time driving all over the place for his love of sport. We wouldn’t trade it for the world, though; watching him grow as an athlete and a person. When I heard he had a soccer tournament in Virginia Beach the same weekend as the Shamrock Marathon races, I had the “Register Now” button clicked before I even finished reading the schedule. (more…)

I am always losing my running sunglasses. Or they fall off my face mid-run and I come close to making an acrobatic catch, tipping them in the air, but never securing them, only to have them crash to the ground, leaving a scratched lens that will drive me nuts every time I wear them thereafter. Replacing my running sunglasses has become a neverending circle. I buy a new pair at each marathon expo that I attend, usually spending around $30 for some “cheap” glasses. The glasses I usually choose are sleek and lightweight. And boring. (more…)

I enjoy the solitude and sounds of the run. The sound of my feet greeting the road. My rhythmic breathing. The birds chirping. The rustle of the leaves as a skunk approaches my path. The car engine behind me that doesn’t care that I have the right-of-way through the intersection. I prefer to hear these things in time to react accordingly. I am not a fan of skunk-stink or tire tracks on my back. So I keep my ears free of obstruction. No earbuds while running for this guy. (more…)
