Shoe review: Brooks Pure Flow for Kids

Shoe review: Brooks Pure Flow for Kids

Back in March, when I was in Virginia Beach for the Shamrock Marathon, my family and I swung by the running expo to pick up my race packet and check out the vendor tables. I had my eye on some Pure Connects at the Brooks booth, so my wife inquired about kid shoes since Connor was in need of a new pair.

Shoe review – Skora Base

Shoe review – Skora Base

I am moving into the world of minimal and zero drop running shoes. The goal of minimalist and zero drop footwear is to get back to the basics – efficient, proper form running. The benefits are injury prevention from a more natural stride, a connection with the terrain you traverse, and improved speed and endurance. But all of those benefits require work and training. The shoe is there to help carry you to your goal.

Brooks Pure Connect 2 Review

Brooks Pure Connect 2 Review

If I had the will-power to limit myself to one shoe for all occasions, the Pure Connect 2 would be it. Snack Time! Cranberry Walnut Vanilla Yogurt Parfait

Who doesn’t like a parfait?  It sounds so gourmet. Anyway, I don’t know how many calories it has but it has got to be pretty good for you. Here is the recipe.

Grab a bowl. Add some vanilla yogurt. You can go for non-fat or, even better, greek varities. Grab a handful of walnuts – either whole or pieces and shelled of course – and toss them in. Then do the same with a handful of Craisins (dried cranberries). Done.

I make this up after a run or when I don’t have much time to make a meal.

Asics Gel Lite33 Review – Marathon tested

Asics Gel Lite33 Review – Marathon tested

I am updating this review since I ran my first marathon wearing the Asics Gel Lite33’s. I did the majority of my long runs during my 16 week marathon training plan in these shoes. They were nice and lightweight and had just enough padding in the forefoot to get me through the long miles. They held up perfect for the marathon. I don’t remember thinking about them during the race at all. So that is a good thing. These shoes are great for distance running, but there is something about the heel of shoe that I do not like for just casual wear. But I would recommend this show for a lightweight marathon shoe.

Product Review: Salomon XT Twin Water Belt

Running long distances requires hydration. Having water available on your run can be difficult unless you carry your own. My solution, until recently, was a water belt by New Balance that holds a single water bottle in front, angled toward your left hip. It also has a pouch in the front for keys, ipod, whatever. It worked fine, but I was running out of water at 15 or so miles. The single bottle was not enough. (more…)
