June 1, 2013 – Doukenie Winery, Purcellville, Virginia.
Heat. Hills. Gravel. Three things that can make a run miserable … if you let them. I see them as challenges. On this day, the only one of those three that almost got the best of me was the heat and humidity. I haven’t trained for heat much so far this year and it showed. (more…)
May 27, 2013 marked the 26th running of the Loudoun Street Mile in Winchester, Virginia. I ran this race last year and it was the only race I thought I was going to puke after. Nice, right? (more…)
This weekend is the Shenandoah Valley Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, Virginia. Tens of thousands of people come to Winchester to attend a myriad of festivities including parades, parties, wine festivals, craft shows, and more. The weekend also offers two premier races for the area. (more…)
My second Tough Mudder. Scaling the Berlin Walls.
Tough Mudder returned to the Mid-Atlantic on April 20th, 2013, setting up shop in Wild and Wonderful West Virginia. This year chose a shooting range and training facility on 500 acres in Gerrardstown.
After the fiasco that was the 2012 Mid-Atlantic Tough Mudder in Frederick, Maryland, I was optimistic that the organizers could redeem themselves. My first Mudder experience was tarnished by horrible traffic, parking and planning. That said, I still had fun the first time and was looking to get back out to tackle another Mudder. (more…)
Sixteen weeks of training came to a conclusion on a cool and windy St. Patty’s Day. I ran my first full marathon March 17, 2013 at the Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach. This experience was the ultimate test of being a Running Dad. It took a lot of patience and cooperation from my family to make it all come together.
