RACE RECAP
Today’s race was at Warren County High School in Front Royal, Virginia. The course was all paved winding through several parking lots around the school and into the surrounding neighborhood. I was a little worried that a bruised hip (I wiped out on the stairs off my porch like a dumby and have a goose egg), but I seem to have found a comfortable groove in the sub-19 minute time range. There were a few hills and I wished I had chewed up a bit more ground on those and done a bit better. Once again it came down to a sprint at the end. That is my favorite part of the race. (more…)

RACE RECAP:
The race was held at Signal Knob Middle School in Strasburg, VA. It was snowy and cold. Roads were a bit icy and the course took us from pavement, to gravel, to a wooded trail and back to pavement. The tandem portion of the race s that you team up with another runner and add up your times. I teamed up with my friend Steve. He came at 23:54. The ice and snow definitely made it a challenge.

RACE RECAP:
This race was around Bowling Green Golf Club and the neighborhoods nearby. No watches allowed. Before the race, you predict your time. My guess was 33:30. The majority of the course was paved, but there was a bit of packed gravel on a sloped section of the road (crested in the center of the road) that I had a hard time finding a comfortable path to run on. Other than that, an enjoyable run. I actually did better than I thought.

RACE RECAP: This race was on the grounds and surrounding properties at Historic Long Branch. The snow was flying and it was cold. I couldn’t get my muscles feeling right before the race, so I did not have high hopes for a strong time. There were some slick spots and some uneven surfaces. The scenery was incredible though. How often do you pass a horse and rider while on a run? The race ended on a big hill, so I pushed through that and around the final turn. I was very pleased with a sub 20 minute time.

RACE RECAP:
This race was at Blandy Experimental Farm and State Arboretum. I had run this course before so I was familiar with the different terrains and where to make up time. A lot of the course is gravel, so I knew when I hit the actual paved road to turn it up a notch. That was at about mile two. And then Shane passes me as usual. He always comes flying by at mile 2. I kept him fairly close and at the last turn, I sped up to him and we finished with the exact same time. It always feels good to finish on a dead sprint. Another sub 20:00 time.
