SVRunners.org Winter Series #1: A Race Through History on December 01, 2012

RACE RECAP:

This race was at Millbrook High School and included the bike trail nearby. Connor came with me for this race since they had a kids run that was to be 1/2 to 1 mile. It was to start after the 5k participants had departed. I was chugging along at a nice pace. Personal record pace. Then Connor appears on the trail distraught and saying “I took the wrong turn, I don’t know where to go.” There was some confusion from the course marshals that accidentally sent the kids onto the 5k course instead of the abbreviated kids course. I slowed down and ran with Connor to a spot where the finish line was in sight. Then I kicked it into turbo and finished with a decent time. No PR, but I got to run a little bit with Connor.

RACE RECAP:

The course was laid out at Millbrook High School. It included some surrounding neighborhood and a portion of the bike trail. I enjoy the races at Millbrook. Most end on the school track so you get a nice surface for that final kick.

Winchester Green Circle 5k and Kid’s Mile 2012 on October 06, 2012

RACE RECAP:

I felt fast this day. The course was pretty flat, all paved, and I felt great. It started and finished at the shopping center with the Daily Grind. My goal for the day was  20:00 time. A new personal record. As I came to the final tenth of a mile, my wife was on the side and let me know I was under 20. I knew since I run with my Garmin, but it is great t have someone else pulling for you to meet a goal. And I met it. Smashed it actually. 19:31. I’ll take it.

There was a kids mile associated with the race as well. Connor ran it and his goal was 8 minutes. He met it. And smashed it, too. 7:44. Not bad for a 6 year old!
