I recently had an interesting conversation regarding running. A friend asked me how I do not get bored running for extended periods of time. He asked if I listened to music. I don’t if I am outside. I enjoy the quiet and feel safer being able to hear what is going on around me as opposed to wearing headphones. He asked what I think about. I told him my mind just kind of wanders at times, but usually focuses on my run and what I plan on getting out of it. Then it kind of clicked how I could relate how I feel about running to him. I did not start to run on a regular basis until January, 2012. I was 35 years old and weighed about 25 pounds more than I do now. Obviously the loss of extra pounds helped to improve my speed. My favorite part of a race is the final kick. As soon as I have the finish line in sight, I like to take off in a full sprint. I usually can steal a few places by flying past runners coasting into the finish. (more…)

It’s too cold to run outside today. Better take the day off.
I used to have those thoughts ingrained in my mind. Or if I saw other people out running I would think they were nuts. This year, I learned how to conquer the cold. It sounds simple, but all I had to do was dress for success. Heavy sweatshirts and sweatpants are not the answer for me. I get sweaty, then the cold air makes that moisture uncomfortably cold. (more…)
